Rohnie Tan, the most sought after violinist in town, whether touring with rock or pop artists, his capability of recording for the biggest film scores, soloing with the best orchestras, bands, painters in different genres or lending his unique talent to the television shows and various music award winning albums has made him a distinctively accomplished musician .
At the age of 10, Rohnie picked up the violin and studied classically ever since. With his extraordinary talent, he joined many orchestras and later on majored in cello at the age of 13. By 16, he obtained the title as principal cellist, and led the orchestra, representing Malaysia to perform in various big International Music Festivals in London, China, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore.
At 18, Rohnie left Penang to attend the International College of Music (ICOM), where he studied Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Professional Music (BMUS) which specialises on Audio Engineering and Music Arranging. It was during this time that Rohnie began to develop a growing interest in non-classical music. He started moonlighting with local jazz and rock bands in Kuala Lumpur clubs, and by the following years, he had accepted many offers to tour with indie bands and well known local artists.
Over the last ten years, Rohnie’s profile has continued to soar. He’s been featured in A-mei 张惠妹 ‘Utopia’ World Tour, A-Lin 黄丽玲 ‘Sonar’ World Tour, and Andy Lau 刘德华 show.
